Cannabis is a complex, controversial, and historic plant. Its versatility, usefulness and medicinal value have allowed cannabis to be used in all sorts of industries and products.
What should you know about cannabis
There are many science and math behind cannabis. But we’ll simplify: Cannabis can be broken down into more than 120 parts, which are called cannabinoids. Cannabidiol or CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol/THC are the most popular and studied cannabinoids. THC gives off the “high” associated with cannabis. CBD is an intoxicating, noneuphoric component. CBD may be present in oils, gummies, or other products for medicinal purposes.
Why can’t CBD be used for health benefits?
CBD has quickly become a wildly popular ingredient and has created a whole new industry. JWU has a degree offering a certificate in Cannabis Entrepreneurship. While research is still ongoing to determine how CBD can effectively be used for medical purposes there have been many promising results. Here are seven methods CBD has been shown in studies to improve health.
1. Lowering blood Pressure
JCI Insight 2017 conducted a study and found that CBD decreased blood pressure. It reduced their resting and post-stress tests including mental mathematic exercise and cold pressure test.
2. Reducing inflammation
According to a Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research research, CBD has been shown in studies to reduce inflammation as well as the neuropathic pain it can lead.
3. Preventing relapse from drug and alcohol addiction
CBD was found to be beneficial in the treatment of people with drug and alcohol addictions, according to a 2018 study. A study in lab rats has shown that CBD can reduce the cravings for stress, anxiety, and lack impulse control which often leads to relapse.
4. Anxiety disorders treated
The most common anxiety condition people use CBD for is anxiety. A preclinical revealed that CBD may be useful in treating panic disorder. OCD, anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
5. Treatment of gastrointestinal problems (GI)
A recent study showed that CBD and non-psychoactive CBD could be used to treat GI disorders such IBS, IBD and Crohn’s. CBD’s antiinflammatory qualities are key to alleviating and preventing symptoms.
6. Preventing seizures
CBD has been researched extensively to treat epilepsy.
7. Fighting cancer
CBD can not only be used to alleviate chemotherapy side effects, but it has also been found to prevent cancerous cell growth in cervical cancer cell lines.
Many more benefits are still being discovered and tested. We believe that students in our Cannabis Entrepreneurship course will play an important role in the development of this industry.
